The Smith household changed forever on Tuesday, January 21, 2014. At 2:18am, my water broke and we started our journey of welcoming our second child to the world. At only 36 weeks pregnant, I wasn't totally prepared but excited to meet baby. We packed our bags, showered, ate breakfast, and called Tyler's dad to come stay with Sam. We left the house around 7:00am to head to the hospital.
After arriving, I was admitted and the monitoring began. After a few hours of irregular contractions, we decided to stop wasting time and start an IV with Pitocen to help with contractions.
I was hooked up and around noon began to have stronger, more frequent contractions. At 3:00 or so, they became very intense and one on top of the other. I felt the need to push so the midwife came in around 4:30 and got all set up. At 5:07pm, our baby was born.
She was very pink and crying before her body was even all the way out.
We were so excited to meet our baby girl.
A minute after birth, she gave us her first pout.
Mommy and Daddy were so happy!
She got to spend an hour or so just bonding with us before being weighed or measured. She ended up weighing 6lbs 6oz and was 20.5 inches long.
Daddy's little girl! It took us hours but we finally decided on a name: Hannah Elaine Smith.
The next morning, Tyler's parents brought Sam in to meet his little sister for the first time. He was so happy and excited.
And our first photo was a family of four was a major success! Just kidding but I love it.
Big brother Sam did a great job showering his little sister in kisses and cookie crumbs.
On Thursday, we got to head home from the hospital.
Poppy and Volt were so happy to meet Hannah. Poppy is being her watchful self and hasn't left her side.
Kristen's parents came home from the hospital with us and got to spend a little time with their newest grandchild.
And Sam has been enthralled with everything about her.
Because she was early, we had to go into the hospital to have a few follow up checks. On Friday, her jaundice reading came back a little high so we had to get retested on Saturday. You can see the yellowish tinge to her skin below.
On Saturday, the counts had increased by quite a bit so Hannah was readmitted to the hospital for some photo therapy. She had to lay in a blue light with little shades on. Mom got to stay in the hospital with her. It was a long couple days but we finally were released on Monday afternoon once her counts were lower.
Our little Hannah Bug.
Now that we are home again, we can't wait to spend time together as a family.
