Outside Window Trim

We finally had a weekend with some good weather so that we could go outside and put up the trim on the outside of the new windows. The whole thing had weather stripping placed around all of the openings so that is where we started.

First up was cutting the sill. This was a little more of a task then I thought it was going to be due to the fact that the 10' length does not fit up in the shop to run fully on the tablesaw. The sill was cut on the circular saw running along a fence.

Shims were applied in the spaces between the two windows.

Trim was added on both of the sides, no shims were needed in these cases.

Last up was the center trim and filling all of the nail holes. There is also one more piece that goes under the sill. I will install that tonight and get a coat of paint on it before the rain comes back.

 Now that all of the cabinet frames are in place the beads around each of the openings is added. This is what it looked like before the bead was added. You can also see the nail holes getting filled.

Cabinet unit to the right of the sink

We started on the cabinet unit to the right of the sink. It is similar to the one on the left but with a large hole for the dishwasher to get installed into. It will have one smaller top drawer and one larger bottom one that we are planning on keeping cookie sheets in.

The side has two panels on it just like the left side. The first picture shows the panel getting glued on and the second shows it all put together.

We also cut the kickboard that is located under the sink that allows the vent to enter the room. You can see a close up of the vent in the first picture and then what it looks like further back in the second. Most of this will be hidden from view once the base panel is in place and it is painted dark brown.

 First step was to move the electrical outlet to the new location that is not hidden by the cabinets, you can see the old location on the right where the tan coverplate is.

The floor and the two hidden walls were made of 3/4 finish plywood.

The face frame was built up of poplar with pocket screws. There will be two top drawers and one large door on the bottom with pullout slides.

The front face frame is then coped into the interfacing shape of the sink.

A face frame was created for the front of the sink bottom as well. You can see this leaning against the sink bottom.

The side unit with two panels was constructed and attached to the unit. The next step will be to attach the front frame and build up the drawers and cabinet doors.

 

 

Start on the Cabinet around the dishwasher

We started work on the unit that goes to the right of the sink and has the hole that the dishwasher goes into. It is a little hard to tell what is going on but the unit will have a set of drawers on the right and just a close out panel on the left side between the dishwasher and the sink. This is what it looks like once the unit is placed over the dishwasher. There still needs to be a side panel and a front panel for both sides. Following that a panel will need to be made for the front of the dishwasher. It looks like from the initial measurements that the face will stick out the front a little but it should blend in pretty good when it is all paneled.
