Moving the door in the upstairs bathroom

We worked over the weekend putting up the new wall in the bathroom and taking down the old one. It gives us an idea of the added space (about 25 square feet) to the bathroom. I think that it will be worth it once everything is complete. Here is a picture of the old bathroom wall with the trim all removed.

Next up the drywall was removed where the new wall needs to go.
The new wall is framed up in what used to be the hallway. The space between the new and old door is the space that is added to the bathroom (obviously the hallway light that is now in the bathroom will be moved).

And here is the new wall with a little sheetrock and the door and door frame moved over. The hall looks smaller but I think we will get used to it.
The old wall that was once the door to the bathroom is now removed. There will be some patching on the ceiling and walls but it lets us see the space quite well. In the second picture you can see into the bathroom where eventually the new built in cabinet will be on the right (where the old bedroom door was) and the rest of the bathroom.

New Mailbox and Flowers in Front Planters

Because Poppy would freak out every day when the mail came, barking and jumping at the door, we decided to get a mailbox. The old one was located in our door - it was just a slot they would have to push the mail through. Every day we would come home to our mail scattered around the living room and sometimes torn open. The new box is much better. She still barks but does not react nearly as badly because no one is pushing something into the house.

We also dug up the planters up front and put in some season appropriate mums.

Framing new upstairs doorway

We have started reworking the upstairs hallway by cutting in the new door to the guest bedroom. First up was cutting the new hole in the wall.
An electrical outlet had to be moved for the new door location.
A header is added and the opening is rough framed.

Some of the old fir boards are used to fill in the door threshold.

Lastly the trim off the old opening is put on the new opening.

Here is a picture from inside the bedroom showing the "new" door on the right and the "old" door on the left.

Removing Carpet in upstairs hall

In preparation for reworking some of the doors, hallway and bathroom Kristen ripped up the carpet and padding from the upstairs hallway. Here is a picture of the hall before the carpet was removed.
Here is the hall with the carpet removed and the pad still left.
And finally, the original floors.

Last to take out are all the tack strips and staples.

Reworking upstairs layout

We have been trying to figure out the upstairs layout and how to get some more room for the bathroom (which is the room in the bottom center of the image). You can see that it is pretty small right now and we are looking at being about to add about 16 more square feet to it but is it worth redoing all of the walls? What do you think?

The top picture shows the existing upstairs and the bottom shows the proposed upstairs.
