Finished baseboard (in one spot)

Here is a picture of what the finished baseboard is going to look like. We only did this one small section as a sample.

We picked up some baseboard cap that is kind of close to what the original in the house looked like. The cap is MDF which I don't like too much but it seemed to take the paint well and the price is right.

The baseboard shoe molding is hemlock because that will need to take a lot more abuse.

The cap molding is nailed into the studs in the wall and the shoe molding is nailed to the floor. This is done so that the shoe molding can float up and down with the floor and maintain the seal between the baseboard and the floor.

We will eventually be doing this to all of the baseboard in the house but I think that we will just do a little bit at a time. It can be a time consuming process to get all the angles that are not quite 90 degrees as well as coping the molding on the inside corners.
